Happy St Pat's Day!

Hello friends!

To celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day try our spin on the Irish coffee which is a mix of the traditional Irish Coffee and the Italian Breve Latte (a latte made with half and half instead of milk). Keep reading below for a little snippet of the origin of Irish coffee, our recipe and a coupon code for Sláinte Coffee!

“It’s is said that Irish coffee was created at the flying boat terminal in Limerick, Ireland. Joe Sheridan was a top-class chef and bartender when he applied for the chef’s job at Rineanna, the townland in Limerick where the Flying Boat terminal was based at Foynes. In his job application, received by CEO Brendan O’Regan, Sheridan simply stated: ‘Dear Sir. I’m the man for the job. Yours sincerely, Joe Sheridan.’

Turns out, Sheridan was right. He got the job, which would later help make him famous.

In 1943, a Pan Am flying boat flight to New York turned back to Foynes due to bad weather. Sheridan was asked to come back to the airport to prepare hot food and drinks for the freezing passengers.

Hoping to warm the travelers, Sheridan put some good Irish whiskey into their coffees and topped it with pouring cream.

When he was asked by the passengers if he had used Brazilian coffee, Sheridan replied: ‘No, it was Irish coffee.’”-From https://www.irishcentral.com/roots/history/irish-coffee-history-invented-recipe

Joe’s original recipe consists of brewed coffee, 2 cubes sugar, Irish whiskey, and heavy cream on top. The breve is a latte made with half and half instead of milk to make a decadent mouthfeel that will require a little more time on the treadmill. We love breves made with our own light roast so we came up with a way to celebrate our Irish heritage as well as our love of specialty coffee beverages.

Sláinte Coffee’s Irish Breve Recipe

Ingredients for Sláinte Coffee’s Irish Breve:

-espresso machine

-25g Sláinte Coffee’s light roast coffee freshly ground for espresso

-3oz half and half

-8g raw sugar

-freshly ground nutmeg

Start with a perfect triple ristretto shot of espresso in a pre-warmed 6 oz mug. Pour in your Powers Whiskey and sugar and give a gentle stir. Steam your half and half in a chilled metal pitcher careful to not make the bubbles big. Pour half and half over espresso/whiskey mixture. Grind fresh nutmeg on top and enjoy.
